GIS Technician

Full-time or part-time · Oceanside, CA

Bucknam Infrastructure Group, Inc. is seeking a GIS Technician to support our growing portfolio of municipal GIS, pavement-management, and right-of-way projects across Southern California.

Description & Duties

The GIS Technician will build, digitize, maintain, and publish spatial data for city, county, and private-agency clients. Day-to-day work covers dataset creation in ArcGIS Pro, web-map publishing to ArcGIS Online, asset feature collection in the field, and quality control of deliverables produced by our infrastructure-management team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Civil Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent work experience
  • One or more years of hands-on GIS work using ESRI products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online)
  • Valid California Driver’s License

Essential Functions

  • Digitize and maintain spatial datasets (parcels, streets, signs, striping, sidewalks, ADA ramps, hydrants, etc.) from aerial imagery, GPS, and field notes
  • Build and publish web maps and web apps in ArcGIS Online for client use
  • Support field collection of assets with GPS-enabled devices and digital imagery workflows
  • Perform QA/QC on GIS data produced by project teams
  • Produce map exhibits, reports, and data packages for client deliverables
  • Convert data between formats (shapefile, GeoJSON, CSV, file geodatabase) and integrate with client systems
  • Assist with pavement-management program data loads (MicroPAVER, StreetSaver, CarteGraph)
  • Collaborate with the pavement and ROW inventory teams to keep GIS data aligned with field observations

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
  • Working knowledge of Python or Arcade for ArcGIS scripting and field calculations
  • Experience with mobile data collection (ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey123, Collector)
  • Local agency (City, County) GIS experience preferred
  • Familiarity with municipal asset management — pavement, ROW, utility, or facility datasets
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to perform repetitive digitizing tasks with high accuracy
  • Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively in the office
  • Clean driving record

Nice to Have

  • Experience with MicroPAVER, MTC StreetSaver, or other pavement-management platforms
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate for drone/UAV data capture
  • Web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for customizing ArcGIS web apps

Pavement Survey Technician

Part-time (up to 30 hours per week) · Oceanside, CA

Bucknam Infrastructure Group, Inc. is searching for a Pavement Survey Technician for our Oceanside, CA office. The successful candidate will provide field-survey and GIS support for our Infrastructure Management team.

Description & Duties

The Pavement Survey Technician maintains pavement management program (PMP) data through condition surveys, PMP assessment and implementation, calculation, and computer input activities. This staffer is responsible for ensuring that current, accurate surface-area and condition data is available through the PMP. Work is completed through scheduled visual and digital roadway imaging inspections of streets and classification of street-section condition using ASTM D6433 methodology (e.g. MicroPAVER, MTC software).

This role works largely alone in the field and is expected to exercise considerable initiative in working efficiently through the day’s assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to a minimum of three years of employment in the construction or engineering field (technical-level experience preferred), including at least one year of pavement and street-condition surveying or closely related field activities.

Must possess a valid California Driver’s License.

Essential Functions

  • Collect data in the field or through infrastructure-management software
  • Assist with local-agency infrastructure management (street and ROW surveys); Army Corps of Engineers pavement surveys
  • Create maps and graphs using GIS software and related tools
  • Conduct research to locate and obtain existing datasets
  • Gather, analyze, and integrate spatial data from staff and determine how best information can be displayed using GIS
  • Analyze spatial data for geographic statistics to incorporate into documents and reports
  • Design and update databases, applying knowledge of spatial feature representations
  • Maintain intra-office communication to share data, procedures, and problem-solving approaches
  • Assume additional office/field responsibilities and special projects as needed

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of MicroPAVER, MTC, or other pavement-management software preferred (not required)
  • Certification with MicroPAVER and/or MTC StreetSaver preferred
  • Local agency (City, County) experience preferred, not required
  • Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Attention to detail and ability to perform duties with a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal clients, group members, and management
  • Clean driving record
